The Espresso Book Machine was in operation at the 2009 London Book Fair last week. It can print single copies to order in around three minutes and after the Fair was starting operation at Blackwell in Charing Cross Road, London. It can print a range of formats, up to A4, and will bind the book as well. Backed up by around 0.5 m titles, the machine will be able to offer instant copies of titles not in regular stock. Blackwell plans to put the machines in all their main shops.
Self-published author, Lilou Mace, arrived at the Fair on Tuesday and by the following day was watching copies of her book – I Lost My Book and I Liked it – coming off the press. You can see her video of a copy being printed.
