The value of scholarly books

To climb up the career ladder, academics have to publish – books and journal articles. In an article in Times Higher Education ‘Why is a bestseller worthless?’, Caron Dann writes about the relative value of different types of books. Research monographs are of supreme importance compared to, say, textbooks or commercial titles such as Stephen Hawking’s A Brief History of Time.
